Unless you’re probably 13 or younger, chances are you’ve been on a date or two and know the feeling of being unsure of what to say or do. Whether we want to admit it or not, the world of dating has several rules written and unwritten, mostly unwritten, that anybody, whether male or female should follow to ensure the date’s success.

First, there are some things everyone should do on dates. First impressions last, and this is an absolute truth when it comes to dating. Try to look your best and be punctual. Nobody wants to go out with somebody who looks like he/she just woke up. Flattery always helps – make a few compliments about what they’re wearing and how they look. You would want to recognize your date’s efforts in looking their best, so do not let this opportunity pass.

Have fun when dating. Be interested and interesting. And if your date is a dud, let your date know in the nicest possible way. It is a downright nasty act to get the other person’s hopes up by not saying anything. If there won’t be a second date, be transparent but remember to be nice.

Date the type of people you like and are attracted to, whatever your friends may say. Stay positive even when dates don’t end well. Maybe you were not meant to be lovers, but would make pretty good friends. It can be said that dating is a creative exercise, so when you are out on a date with someone, put everything else behind you – work, school, other commitments – and use your creativity to suggest unusual dating locations you’ve always wanted to visit in your own area. Make dating happen for yourself. People will not come and ring your bell from nowhere. Dating requires positive action so go out there and meet people, as many people as you can. Don’t limit your practice chat and flirting to the World Wide Web – why not give it a try with a local bartender or shop clerk? Being nice to people is very sexy and great fun. Surround yourself with positive like minded people who are also dating. Think about the girls from Sex and the City and how they assist each other in dating and matters of romance.

Avoid negative, jaded friends for the time being, as their negative feelings will only sour your view on the dating scene.
